Meet Specific "Point Based" Jobs
Require attendance at the meet
You must find the Volunteer table, and sign in before your shift in order to get credit.
If the job is a "shift" job, it means there will be 2 shifts so you can sign up for both, or shift one typically runs from just before the meet begins to event 41, which is about half way. Shift 2 will run from then, until the end of the meet. Some jobs require different times and will be noted in the title.
Computer Assistant: Shift job (3pt)
Assists the Computer\Meet Entry Manager, inside the clubhouse, validating times, calculating results and printing score sheets. No previous training is necessary and this job has the perk of air conditioning!
Early Morning Concessions: (3 pt) Must be at pool by 6:15 am.
Helps prepare food items needed for early morning (coffee, donuts, fruit, etc.). Works the concession stand preparing and selling food.
Afternoon Concessions : Shift job (3 pt)
Assist in preparation and sale of food and snacks during the meet. Roles include sandwich/burger/hot dog preparation, serve customers at concession window, cash register, and clean up after meet.
Hospitality: Shift job (3 pt)
Delivers water to officials, timers and scribes that are on deck during the meet. Occasionally checks restrooms and restocks supplies.
Meet Set up: (3 pt) Must be at the pool by 6AM.
Sets up tents and tables before meet. Requires early morning service and heavy lifting.
Meet Clean up: (3 pt)
As the meet ends, breaks down and stores tables and tents. Disposes of tent trash bags, Checks pool and tent areas for trash.
Ready Bench: Shift job (3 pt)
Assists in seating and moving swimmers up to starting blocks in their assigned lanes. Checks swimmer lane assignments before they get to the starting blocks, escorting swimmers when they are moved to opposite end of the pool. Requires standing most of the time.
Runner:Shift job (3 pt)
Delivers time sheets between the Scribes and the computer room.
Scribe:Shift job (3 pt)
Verifies swimmers names for each race. Sit at an assigned lane and records the times from the timers. Hands out heat ribbons to "8 and unders", recording their times on the back.
Swimmer check in: (3 pt)
Must be at the pool by 6:45 am. Check in swimmers by marking their name on the official list and marking swimmers hand. After swimmer is "checked in" they are sent to their age group tent for stroke assignments.
Timer: Shift job (3pt)
Stands at the end of a lane, (with 2 other timers), using a digital stopwatch to obtains swimmers official time. Reports time to the Scribe.
Meet Specific "Season long" positions
Require attendance at the meet
Age Group Tent Parents: must be at the tent at 6:45 am.
This is a season long job meaning you will get all your 21 points upon completion of the season. There will be 2 tent parents at every tent. With this position you get to know all the kids! We encourage you to have fun with the swimmers! Help them love summer swim and think of it as a little vacation... where you swim a lot.
In the morning you will:
- meet the swimmers at the tent (please be there by 6:45)
- take attendance
- turn in scratches
- inform the swimmers of their stroke assignments by writing it on their arm in sharpie marker
- help the coaches get the kids to warm ups at the appropriate time
Not all swimmers stay at the tent. That is at the discretion of their parents. During the meet you are responsible for:
- "keeping the peace", organized activities that will help the swimmers have fun while they are not swimming is highly encouraged!
- when it is time for your group to swim you line then up and escort them to the ready bench. After they are done you escort them back off the deck.
At the end of the meet you will:
- Take your provided trash bag to the dumpster
- Assist in the tear down of all the age group tents.
Announcer-DJ:
Announces sponsors, events, and calls swimmers to the ready bench during all home meets.
Head Timer:
Responsible for all timers/ and scribes, for maintaining scribe boards/supplies, stop watches and false start gun.
Tent Crew:
Assists in setting up tents. Attendance required at home and away meets.
Ribbons Coordinator:
During meets, responsible for adhering labels to the respective ribbons and placing them in the family folders by the first day of practice. Responsible for submitting an end of season inventory.
Grill Master:
Works at the grill during home meets.
Non-Meet related "Season long" jobs.
Some do not require attendance at the meets
Banquet Coordinator:
Oversees the banquet planning, arranging banquet location, décor, food/refreshments, activities, ordering trophies/medals/awards, creating an agenda for the evening, picture slide show, music/DJ, coordinating set up and clean up, set up table with: w/family folders, lost & found, end of year survey, Bylaws, and Board elections.
Team Photographer:
Takes action/candid shots (of all ages) at all events, home/away meets. Responsible for posting them in a timely manner where our team members can download them. Responsible for submitting photos to the Board for posting on team website and for creating a slide show for the end of year banquet.
Officials
Requires NWAL training: must attend a class, on deck training, and pass online test.
Clerk of Course (Head Ready Bench):
Coordinates the swimmers and volunteers at the ready bench at all meets. In charge of arranging swimmers on benches (using computer sheets) by event, heat, and lane assignment making sure the correct swimmers are in the correct lanes at their assigned heat, and event and to provide necessary training for new recruits, and helps guide younger swimmers to the starting blocks.
Starter:
Official responsible for starting events fairly. Directs swimmers to "take their mark..." Must attend NWAL training in March or April to be a certified official starter.
Stroke and Turn Official:
Watches from the sides and ends of the pool for disqualification's (DQ's); looking for proper technique in strokes and turns and starts and finishes. Must attend NWAL training in March or April to be a certified official.
Deck Referee:
Supervises the Starter and on deck officials assigned by the Officials Coordinator (Meet Referee); shall, before each race signal the Starter that all of the Officials and swimmers are in position, that the course is clear, and that the competition may begin. Must attend NWAL training in March or April to be a certified official Deck Referee.
Team Management "Season Long" Committee Chairs
Sponsorship Coordinator:
Oversees the sponsor program. Solicits local businesses to underwrite the team. Collect logos for team shirts, website, signs, heat sheets etc. May also be asked to solicit donations for incentives/ rewards.
Officials Coordinator (Meet Referee):
Responsible for solicitation of volunteers to attend NWAL training (in April) and tracks their certifications each year to ensure our team has sufficient number of officials. Responsible for recruiting starter, referee, head timer and stroke and turn. Coordinate the team officials for each dual meet and Divisional meet. Overseas all on/off deck officials, including the Head Timer. Meet Referee is ultimately accountable for ensuring that NWAL meets are operated according to the current NWAL rules and other sanctioning documents.
Concessions Coordinator:
Responsible for concessions at home meets including submitting a menu proposal to the Board which will include: item, cost, sale price, profit margin, # to be ordered. Responsible for obtaining all concession items, placing order for items, ensuring pick up items, setting up a booth(s), end of year inventory of equipment/supplies, and is responsible for totaling monies with the Treasurer.
Computer Personnel:
Responsible for the weekly team roster, heat sheets, and delivers to the NWAL meet coordinator (or other, including invitational meets) on or before the deadline preceding each meet. Creates master swim team roster and updates it with NWAL & team. Provides the necessary training for new recruits. Manages, configures and maintains all computer system and software. Run reports for coaches as needed and handles meet entry exchange. Oversees and validates data entry at meets, calculates results, prints score sheets, etc. Attendance required at all meets.
